Troubleshooting Your Biogents Mosquitaire CO₂ Trap

Solve Common Issues with Fan, Regulator, Trap Door, and Nets

The Biogents Mosquitaire CO₂ trap is a powerful tool for environmentally friendly mosquito control. But like any precision device, it can run into minor issues that reduce its effectiveness. Here’s a quick guide to identifying and fixing common problems so your trap can keep doing its job.

1. Trap Door String Installed Incorrectly

Symptom: CO₂ not flowing properly or trap cover not sealing correctly.

Check: The thin string from the trap lid must feed through the small dedicated hole in the base of the trap. If routed incorrectly (e.g., pinched by the trap body), the lid won't seat properly, which can affect airflow and reduce capture rates.

Fix:

  • Remove the trap lid gently.

  • Reroute the string through the correct hole before replacing the lid.

  • Ensure the lid seals snugly and the string isn't pinched or tangled.

2. CO₂ Regulator Issues

Symptom: No CO₂ flow, weak flow, or inconsistent performance.

Possible Causes & Fixes:

  • Adjust regulator: Ensure that the CO2 regulator has been adjusted to within the green markers on the gauge. The ideal setpoint is .5 kg/day which is at the low end of the green marks.

  • Incorrect washer installation: Between the regulator and tank valve, you must place a fiber or nylon washer ( included). A missing or cracked washer can cause leaks or failure.

  • Check for leaks: Apply soapy water to all fittings. If you see bubbles forming, tighten connections or replace worn washers.

3. Stuck or Non-Spinning Fan

Symptom: No air suction or buzzing from trap; mosquitoes not entering funnel.

Causes & Fixes:

  • Debris or spider webs can jam the fan blades. Carefully remove the top of the trap and inspect the fan compartment.

  • Gently rotate the fan with a clean object to free it. Do not force it as the fans can be fragile.

  • Electrical connection issue: If fan still doesn’t spin when plugged in, test with a different power supply or check for corrosion at the plug or socket.

4. Nets Fall Off or Don’t Fit Properly

Symptom: Inner capture bag falls into the trap body or doesn't stay taut.

Fixes:

  • Ensure you’re using the correct Biogents net model. Aftermarket nets may not fit properly or grip the rim.

  • Nets should fit snugly over the plastic capture ring inside the trap. If it’s loose, gently pull and adjust the elastic rim.

  • Avoid stretching the net too tightly, which can weaken the elastic over time.

Pro Tip: Always store nets in a dry, dark place to preserve the mesh and elastic.

5. Other General Tips

No mosquitoes caught after days: Check placement: trap should be in shaded, humid area with no competing CO₂ sources nearby.

Too many mosquitoes around the trap - This is normal, the trap is attracting them. Adding a second trap near a different area may help reduce pressure.

CO₂ tank empties too fast - Confirm flow rate is at .5 kg/day at the low end of the green marks. Consider adding a CO2 timer valve to reduce runtime to peak mosquito hours (e.g., dawn & dusk).
